What to do When it Rains in Dublin

Posted On 02/08/2017

So, it rains here… a lot. BUT, there are still plenty of things to do despite the rain. Here’s a list of some of the best things to do in Dublin when it rains!

1) Shop in St. Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre.

This is a great option because like any good mall, it’s all indoors. You won’t have to run from store to store avoiding the rain or shielding your newly bought items. It’s also a great option because there are many food options scattered throughout the mall, so you can take a break from your shopping. Plus, it is centrally located, so if the rain does clear up, but you want to venture elsewhere, Grafton Street is right across the way.

2) Ride the bus and sightsee.

There are two options for this: 1) you can use your leap card or 2) you can purchase a ticket for a hop-on-hop-off bus. If you’re a planner, go ahead and map out where you want to go and figure out which busses will take you there. If not, you can just as easily jump on the bus and get off whenever you feel like it. This can be a more cost effective way to get around the city without having to walk out in the rain. Tickets for the City Sightseeing busses are usually less than €20 and are sometimes bundled with other deals!

3) Post up in a coffee shop with a book.

This one might be my favorite out of the list. I love a good book, and I sure do love a good cup of coffee, too. They say there’s a pub on every corner and I like to think that there is a coffee shop on every other corner. So, pop into a coffee shop, forget the rain, and get lost in the world of your book. These are some of our favorite coffee shops: 3FE, Caffè Nero, Brother Hubbard, and Kaph.

4) Try a new restaurant.

Dublin has so many restaurants and they are all different. If you have the time and want to avoid the rain, try checking out a restaurant that you haven’t been to yet. You’ll be able to stay dry, enjoy nice, fresh food, and share some memorable time with friends. Here are some cool ones that a worth trying: Cotto, Union 8, The Winding Stair, Bunsen, and Crackbird.

5) See a movie.

This one is always a given on a rainy day, but here it is, last and certainly not least. Dublin has a handful of movie theaters to choose with various locations around the city. Find out which one is closest to you and what movies are playing. Sometimes you can find some pretty sweet deals at certain movie theaters, too. For example,  Savoy Movie Theater on O’Connell St. has special deals depending on the day. On Tuesday, they offer $5 student tickets and on Wednesday, you can get a movie ticket, a medium drink, and a medium popcorn all for €10.
