Things Nobody Tells You to do in Dublin

Looking for something different to do in Dublin? Here is a list of 10 things to do if you are craving a little adventure! Most of these will require a little transportation, but all are located within 1 hour of the Dublin city centre, so these make for great day trips.


1. Zipit

If you love an adrenaline rush, this is the place for you. There are 5 different circuits with over 90 obstacles to complete. From zip lines to rope bridges your thrill-seeking heart will surely be satisfied. The cost for anyone over 15 is €30 and it is about 30 minutes south of the city centre.


2. The Forty Foot

This is a famous swimming spot off the coast of Dun Loaghaire, which is about a 20 minute DART ride from Connolly Station. With clean water and a beautiful view, this is a great place to spend an afternoon on a sunny day!


3. Ireland’s Eye in Howth

This is a small island located off the coast of Dublin, close to the fishing town of Howth. It is only accessible by boat, so it is pretty secluded. Take the chance to feel like the king or queen of your own island by visiting Ireland’s Eye. The boat ride costs €15 and the boat ride is 15 minutes and you may stay on the island as log as you please.  

 


4. AquaZone at the National Aquatic Centre

Worried about it being too cold in Dublin for a water park? Not to worry because this one is indoors! It has a lazy river, a wave pool, and tons of waterslides which makes for a fun-filled day with friends.


5. Hike from Bray to Greystones

If you like to hike, this is the perfect option for you! Take in the pretteist views of the Irish Sea and the coastline. Hop on the DART to Greystones and hike to Bray, or vice versa. Also in Bray, there is a sort hike up a hill to a giant cross. Hiking up there will be a little more tough, but the views are absolutely worth it.


6. Butler’s Chocolate Experience

Enjoy an afternoon of sweet smells and sights at the Butler’s Chocolate factory. Take a tour and learn about the making of their chocolates in real life! For €12.85, you will get to experience the happenings of chocolate-making and even bring home your own edible masterpiece.


7. Surfdock Watersports

From kayaking to paddle-boarding, this is the perfect adventure for those who love the water. Located on the banks of the Grand Canal, it is easily accessible to anyone with a little bit of free time. Just don’t be afraid to get wet and try something new!


8. Powerscourt Estate

Get your cameras ready because this place has some of the most beautiful gardens in all of Ireland! Spend your day gazing at the abundance of flowers and Ireland’s highest waterfall. Accesible by bus or train and only €8.50, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this pretty space.


9. Dublin zoo

Located in Phoenix Park, this is a great way to spend an full day or just an afternoon. Enjoy watching all different animals like giraffes, penguins, wolves, and elephants. Student tickets are only €13.50 and just a short walk from the city centre. 


10. Adventure Rooms Dublin

These have recently increased in popularity all over the world. Your goal as a group is to “escape” a certain room before the timer goes up. These will be sure to make you feel like you are in an action movie. With multiple locations around Dublin, you can definitely find one that will both be close to home and give you a thrill.
